Webelos Camp was Awesome!

Posted by Webmaster on Jul 16, 2010 in Camping

We just got back from Webelos camp up at camp Naish and it couldn’t have been any better.  The stormy weather cleared as we headed up to camp and it just kept getting better.  We had beautiful days and cool nights for great sleeping.  The boys had an incredible time camping, swimming, learning new skills, handling snakes, checking out the baby alligator, bouldering, shooting off model rockets, shooting arrows, earning their whittling chip, and cooking their own dinner in our campfire.  In fact, many of the boys said their tinfoil dinner was the “best food ever!”

This year we had a total of 13 Scouts (Webelos I & II) attend and they accomplished many of the Webelos Scout achievements.  We will be putting up pictures soon.

Centennial Camping Extravaganza

Posted by Webmaster on Jul 9, 2010 in Camping, Events

Mark your calendars and plan to be at the Heart of America Council’s Centennial Campground (adjacent to the Naish Scout Reservation) on September 24-26, 2010 for one of the largest gatherings of Scouts in the country to celebrate the BSA’s 100th Anniversary. All Tiger Cubs, Cub Scouts, Boy Scouts, Venturers and Explorers should plan to attend this once-in-a-lifetime, first-class, grand-scale, weekend-long Scouting extravaganza.

Here is a link to the information page that has all of the details:  http://www.hoac-bsa.org/CentennialCampout.aspx

Please take a look at the busing schedule to get an idea of when you have to arrive.  Everyone has to be bussed in/out and the times are limited.

The Webelos I and II Scouts and an adult will be camping with the Boy Scouts and the Cub Scouts will have a great full day event on Saturday.

Watch for more details as we are in the midst of registering for this event.  Please contact Scott Valler if you and your Webelos Scout wish to attend. And, let Jennifer Murphy know if your Cub Scout wants to attend the Saturday event.

Webelos Camp on Sunday

Posted by Webmaster on Jul 9, 2010 in Camping

Webelos camp is Sunday, July 11th – Tuesday, July 13th up at camp Naish.  If you haven’t been there before, please check the map link in the calendar item (http://www.pack3241.org/?page_id=3).  The program finishes up at 8:30 p.m. on Tuesday.

We will be meeting up at the LVE parking lot at 11:30 a.m. on Sunday, July 11th. Please bring lunch to eat either there or on the way up.  They will provide dinner on Sunday.  Wear your class A uniform to LVE and on the ride to camp, we will change after we get checked-in.  Bring your Pack t-shirts to change into on Sunday.  Webelos II will need to keep their class A uniforms in nice order for a ceremony they will attend near the end of camp.  Make sure you bring your swim trunks and towels.  We will be getting in the water for a swim test on Sunday not long after we get camp setup.  That “we” means all of us including adults.  Please leave your snacks at home or locked in your car as the raccoons are very active and will enter your tent and go through your bags for any food or crumbs.  And, they are good at getting into coolers and back packs – we saw this first hand last year.  We will be providing drinking water so please bring at least two water bottles with your name and Pack number on them.

Here is a link to the leader’s guide for camp that will tell you everything we will doing and give you a good list of what to bring. http://www.hoac-bsa.org/Libraries/Camping_Documents/CMP_Webelos_Leaders_Guide_2010.sflb.ashx

Here is a map of the camp that you may want to print and bring with you:  http://hoac-bsa.org/ae_links/CMP_Map_Naish_Central_Camp_Cub_World.pdf

Camp provides canvas tents and cots like they did at Bear camp.  There are hot showers, but the boys showers are separate from the adults so you may want to bring two shower kits.  There is a camp store with cold drinks and snacks so you may want to bring some spending money.  Boys may bring their knives as longs as they have their whittling chip with them.

Contact Scott Valler at 913-221-9109 if you have any questions.

Webelos had fun on Den campout

Posted by Webmaster on Jun 15, 2010 in Camping

The Webelos had a Den only campout at Shawnee Mission Park recently. We made large torsion type catapults, made small cooking fires, cooked on “hobo” stoves, played games and generally had an incredible time.

Webelos Woods was great!

Posted by Webmaster on Jun 15, 2010 in Camping

We had a great time at Webelos Woods this year! Troop 412 did a great job.

The General’s Honor Guard from Fort Riley put on a great show for the boys. The Honor Guard represents the 18th century cavalry riding horses, wearing period accurate uniforms and weapons as well as setting up a period accurate campsite. The Military Police from Fort Riley also came out and put on a great static display of vehicles and equipment that the boys were able to check out.

Activities included BB guns, sling shots, starting fires, creating shelters, first aid, compass work, and more.

The rain came and went and we all camped out and had an incredible time. Keep an eye out next year for a great time for all Bears and Webelos.
